Tube advice
|
I'm going to the game tonight and parking at redbridge and getting the tube to Stratford. My question is on the TFL website they state 3 different prices 1 for oyster card, 2 contact less and single fare. Obviously I don't have an oyster so is the contact less payment cheaper than a single fare as return would work out quite expensive for 3 stops.

Strangely I will prob park at Redbridge tonight too as drove to work today. If the car park is not free You should park on the A12 / Eastern Ave parking spaces where the houses are just before the staion and walk a minute or two to the tube.
I may also park at the top of Leytonstone High Rd near Maryland rail station and walk but guessing traffic and parking will be a mare.

Redbridge is my only vial be option as I'm coming from Norwich so driving down. It's got a car park and just off the M11 so not as much traffic(hopefully) to get in and out quickly.

Good choice Redbridge. It's only about 10 minutes to Stratford on the underground. Then quick getaway after. (Allow a bit of time getting back to Stratford after the game though. Madhouse!)

Good tip for anyone using contactless: Register your card on the TFL website. Why? Because if for some reason you don't tap in or tap out correctly (which happens much more often that you think - especially going to and from football when often all barriers are open and staff wave you through) the system will charge you more than your journey would normally cost. But if you periodically check online you'll find that it flags these journeys and lets you correct them - and then refunds the extra payment.
TFL recently admitted they make millions every year on overcharging "incomplete" journeys.

Yes mate. Yellow pads on the ticket barriers. It will make single beep. If it makes no noise or a double beep it hasn't registered it. You will be fine at Redbridge but at Stratford as its so busy it's easy to just get swept through. Yes, one scan start and finish of each journey

Just touch in and out with your card on the yellow reader.

Well I use my bank card, when I don't have any cash on the oyster, and the cost of the journey is the same.

Ok nice one Simon just TFL wasn't very clear as like you say contactless is marginally more expensive than oyster but £3 cheaper than a single fare.

Contactless should be same as the oyster fare. Use your card.
